IBM CHPID Mapping Tool (CMT) by IBM Corporation is a planning and validation utility for IBM zSystems I/O configurations. It correlates Channel Path Identifier (CHPID) definitions from your mainframe configuration with the physical SAN and FICON infrastructure—directors, switches, storage ports, and cabling—to produce clear, accurate maps of end-to-end connectivity.

Designed for z/OS, z/VM, and storage/SAN teams, CMT helps you verify path diversity and redundancy, spot single points of failure, confirm zoning and port assignments, and optimize load distribution across fabrics. It supports “what‑if” analysis for migrations and upgrades, enabling you to model changes before they go live and reduce risk during maintenance or expansion.

CMT streamlines collaboration by generating visual diagrams and detailed reports that are easy to share across operations, network, and storage groups. By aligning logical definitions with the physical topology, it shortens troubleshooting time, improves change confidence, and supports adherence to IBM best practices for FICON and SAN design.

IBM CHPID Mapping Tool is developed by IBM Corporation. The most popular version of this product among our users is 5.4. The name of the program executable file is javaw.exe.
